Educational Program

SPEED Trust is constantly encouraging all forms of education among slum-dwellers, namely through the pledges going along with the sponsorship program, the vocational trainings, and the financial assistance of non-sponsored families who cannot afford to send their children to school.

Besides this intense communication, the main concrete action led in the field of education is the Tuition centre, which was settled five years ago. Its idea is, against an affordable 10 Rs. per month, to provide school children with a calm, ventilated room where they can do their homework with the help of an appointed teacher, a possibility they do not have in their family’s single-room house. Children who are getting good results at school exams are rewarded as a mark of motivation.

Students between IX th standard and + 2 are given special care by volunteers teaching them high-level mathematics and sciences, and continuously encouraging them to attend higher studies after + 2 exams, these studies being sponsored whenever needed.

SPEED Trust also intervenes in partnership with the local authorities to support the Gandhi Nagar Corporation School , by distributing stationeries to its students.

Other activities are also organized: painting, gymnastics, advanced English, etc. Yearly, during summer holidays, SPEED Trust provides children with games and educational activities (gardening, juggling, painting, games, etc.) and takes them for small tours out of the slum.
